Week of Fasting & Prayer – Day 5

But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. – Matthew 24:13-14

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. – Matthew 24:29–31

Before Jesus’ death, He preaches a sermon to His disciples about what they can expect in the end times. He doesn’t want them to lose hope while He is in Heaven. In fact, Jesus tells His disciples earlier in Matthew that they don’t need to fast until He leaves. Fasting reminds us that Jesus is still coming back and we are still waiting on Him to redeem all things to Himself!

There are two things from this passage that can encourage us today as we fast…

  1. Jesus IS coming back!! Even though we don’t know the exact time or day, we do know that it won’t be until everyone on the earth has heard The Gospel! Most conservative estimates are that there are still 1 BILLION people who fall into this category. This should cause us to fast for the return of Christ and for the expansion of The Gospel around the world!
  2. Verses 29-31 give us a powerful image of the risen Christ coming back to reign on the earth. Just imagine what that scene will be like – Jesus coming from the clouds with obvious, visible power and glory, a multitude of angels gathering The Church from every corner of the earth! Fasting today can help you fall more in love with the brilliant Jesus that we worship and serve!

Today, we are praying for…

  • Pray for missionaries around the world who are helping advance The Gospel. Especially, pray for our missionaries – Becky, Gerda, Erin, Lindsey, Danielle and more!
  • Pray for the salvation of people in your life who don’t know Christ… yet!

For Impact Church, we are praying that…

  • God will continue to use us to send out more missionaries
  • Every heart at Impact Church would be obedient to God’s calling
