How to Identify Idols

This past Sunday we talked about living a new life in Christ. One of the steps to living that new life is to put to death former idols in your life. Now, we all know that this is not a one-time occurrence. Our hearts are prone to be idol factories and chase after this world. So, here is a list of questions from Pastor Timothy Keller to help you identify what idols might be present in your life…
  1. What are you most afraid of?

  2. What do you long for most passionately?

  3. Where do you run for comfort?

  4. What do you complain about the most?

  5. What angers you the most?

  6. What makes you the happiest?

  7. How do you define yourself to people?

  8. What has caused you to be angry with God?

  9. What do you brag about?

  10. What one thing do you want most?

  11. What do you sacrifice for?

  12. If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be?

  13. Who’s approval are you seeking (other than Jesus)?

  14. What do you want to control or master?

  15. What comforts in this life do you treasure the most?
